India's Dengue Virus Mix Becoming More Complex
A two-year nationwide survey has found that India's dengue epidemic is entering a more complex phase, with multiple virus strains now circulating simultaneously across much of the country. This mix of strains is making the disease more challenging to diagnose and treat. According to the survey, the number of dengue cases has increased significantly in recent years, with a total of 1.5 million cases reported in 2025 alone. The survey also found that the virus is spreading rapidly in urban areas, particularly in Bengaluru, where the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has reported a significant increase in dengue cases. The BBMP has launched a mosquito control program to combat the spread of the disease. The survey was conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
