India Unveils First Vaccine Against African Swine Fever

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has unveiled the country's first vaccine against African Swine Fever (ASF). The vaccine, which was developed by ICAR-KVK, WGH, has been tested and found to be effective in preventing the disease. The vaccine is expected to offer new hope to millions of pig farmers, particularly in the North eastern states where the disease has exacted heavy economic losses over the past several years. The vaccine is a cell-based live attenuated vaccine, which has been shown to provide long-term protection against the disease. The ICAR has plans to scale up the production of the vaccine to make it available to farmers across the country.
