NASA's New Horizons Spacecraft Awakens from Yearlong Hibernation to Do Unprecedented Science Beyond Pluto

NASA's New Horizons spacecraft has awakened from a nearly yearlong hibernation at the solar system's edge, with all systems in good health and ready to begin transmitting science data again. The spacecraft has been in hibernation since July 2025, during which time it traveled over 4 billion miles to the edge of the solar system. The spacecraft is now ready to begin conducting unprecedented science beyond Pluto, including studying the Kuiper Belt and the outer reaches of the solar system. The mission is expected to provide significant new insights into the outer reaches of the solar system and the formation of the planets.
