Raspberry Pi Raises 16GB Pi 5 Price to $385, Triple Its Launch Cost
Raspberry Pi raises 16GB Pi 5 price by $80 to $385 amid memory shortage
Key points
- The 16GB Raspberry Pi 5 now costs $385, up from $120 at its January 2025 launch.
- The Raspberry Pi 500+, which has the same amount of RAM, was not part of this round of price rises.
- Upton said the price increases are temporary and the company will roll them back when memory costs fall.
Why it matters. Buyers needing high-RAM Raspberry Pi boards face sharply higher costs, and Micron has warned memory shortages could drag on into 2028 or beyond.
Raspberry Pi has added $80 to its 16GB Pi 5, which now sells for $385, company boss Eben Upton announced. The 16GB Compute Module 5 variants rose $40, while the Raspberry Pi 500+ was spared. Upton blamed soaring memory costs and a lack of alternative 16GB DRAM supply, and the model cost $120 at its January 2025 launch. Buyers now pay $265 more than less than two years ago, a 221 percent rise.

Raspberry Pi has announced another round of price increases for its devices. The 16GB Pi 5 now costs $385 after an $80 rise, which takes it to more than three times its original launch price. The company's chief executive, Eben Upton, announced the latest increase. It follows a previous round of hikes only about a month earlier. The company has attributed the pressure to a shortage of memory, which has raised component costs across the electronics industry.
