SEBI eases margin rules for early share delivery; EPI value to be calculated on trade day

SEBI eased margin rules for early share delivery by allowing early pay-in values to be recognized toward margin obligations.

Updated 1 min read

The Securities and Exchange Board of India amended Early Pay-In rules on Thursday to lower margin requirements for investors and stockbrokers. The revised framework starts February 22, 2027, providing four months for clearing corporations and brokers to update systems. Clearing corporations will now calculate accepted EPI value on the trade date based on the lower of securities delivered early or sold. SEBI stated these changes should reduce unnecessary margin needs while maintaining safeguards.
