Top court considers SIT for student protest violence

In response to petitions alleging excessive use of force by police during student protests against leaked papers, the Supreme Court has ordered a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe incidents of violence. The three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant sought clarifications from the Centre and governments in Delhi, Maharashtra, Bihar, Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, and Uttar Pradesh regarding police crackdowns on protesters. The court emphasized the need for an independent investigation into the allegations against law enforcement agencies.
