Warren Buffett Has Held Coca-Cola for Decades. Here's What $1,000 in the Stock Since 1999 Is Worth Today

An ordinary investor who bought one thousand dollars of Coca-Cola shares on November first, 1999, has seen that stake grow to six thousand six hundred eighty dollars, a gain of nearly five hundred sixty-eight percent before counting dividends. That works out to roughly seven point three percent annually over the period. The company has transformed itself by selling concentrates and syrups to bottling partners instead of running capital-heavy bottling plants, while expanding into brands like BodyArmor, fairlife, Costa and Topo Chico. Coca-Cola Zero Sugar is now the growth engine, with volume up sixteen percent in the latest quarter, and leadership has passed to new chief executive Henrique Braun. Management has raised its guidance to comparable earnings per share growth of nine to ten percent and free cash flow of about twelve point four billion dollars. The company has also increased its dividend for sixty-three straight years, meaning patient shareholders collected additional income on top of the share price gain. The stock now trades near its fifty-two-week high of ninety-four dollars and ten cents, leaving analysts watching whether the valuation can support another year of similar gains.
