The next Xbox might cost $1,800, report says
Microsoft’s next-generation gaming console, known internally as Project Helix, is currently projected to retail between $1,200 and $1,800 unless the company decides to subsidize the hardware. The pricing estimate was reported in a new profile of Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, citing internal projections shaped by rising costs for RAM and other components driven by AI demand. A separate handheld Xbox device is slated to launch during the 2027 holiday season, with the full Project Helix console expected in the same window of 2028. Sharma has previously described Project Helix as a family of gaming devices, and the console is designed to also play PC games. The high price could complicate Xbox’s goal of reaching more than one billion daily users, up from its current reported level of roughly 100 million. Xbox is also reportedly planning an overhaul of Game Pass with add-on pricing for console-only games, cloud gaming, and multiplayer, while additional layoffs are expected this month and again in November and January.
